In the Vedic tradition the cow is revered as Gau Mata, the giver of nourishment and a symbol of abundance. In Gau Puja, the cow is worshipped with tilak, flowers, fodder and arati, and gau seva is offered. It is done for blessings, in gratitude, and as part of many family rituals.
